A list of 128 awardees of Padma awards declared

 
Padma Awards, the country’s highest civilian awards, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The awards are given in all disciplines/ fields of activities, viz. art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.
The awards are conferred by the President of India at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan sometime around March/ April.

Indian Government has announced 128 Padma awards for 2011 on January 25, 2011 (Tuesday).

List of Nominees:
This year government has received 1303 nominations for the top civilian awards for 2011.

The list of Nominees include Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, fashion designer Ritu Beri and shooter Tejaswami Sawant, Satyendra Dubey, Manjunath Sanmugham. The list of Bollywood stars in the nomineees include Jaya Prada, Priyanka Chopra and Salman Khan.

List of Politicians include, Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal known as ‘Nishank’ under literature and education category and former Orissa chief minister Giridhar Gamang nominated under the ‘instrumental music’ category.

In 2010, Government announced 130 awards, including 13 in the category of foreigners, NRIs and PIOs. The list included 6 Padma Vibhushan, 43 Padma Bhushan and 81 Padma Shri. No one has been chosen for the Bharat Ratna award in 2010.
