(1). The Scorpene Submarine deal was signed between India and France in 2005.

(2). The Mumbai based Mazagon Docks limited is to built six Scorpene Submarine under this project.

(3). DCNS is the French firm,which has developed the Scorpene Submarine

21/03/2010 : Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas Scheme:

(1). Under this scheme,750 residential schools are being setup in difficult areas with boarding facilities at elementary level for girls belonging predominantly to the SC,ST,OBC and minorities.

(2). The scheme would be applicable only in those identified Educationally Backward Block (EBBs) where,as per census data 2001,the rural female literacy is below the national average and gender gap in the literacy is more than the national average.

(3). Among these blocks, schools may be set up in areas with concentration of tribal population,with low female literacy and or a large of girls out of school

(1). It is an important component of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

(2). The scheme envisages that child wise planning is undertaken for each out of school children.

(3). EGS addresses the inaccessible habitation where there is no formal school within the radius of one km and at least 15-25 children of 6-14 age group who are not going to school are available.

(4). In exceptional cases remote habitation in hilly areas even for 10 children as EGS school can be opened.

17/03/2010 : Livestock Insurance Scheme

(1). Implemented during the 10th plan.

(2). It was launched as a pilot basis over 100 districts.

(3). It has the objective to provide Protection Mechanism to the farmers and Cattle breeders for any loss of their animals.

(4). 50 per cent insurance to be provided for cross breed and high yielding cattle and buffaloes.

(1). A Central sponsored scheme launched to enhance the production of rice, wheat and pules by the end of 11th Plan

(2). The Mission is to cover 311 districts on 17 states and become operational since rabi 2007-08.

(3). The Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana has been envisaged as the comprehensive intervention based on local agroclimatic condition to enhance investment to achieve 4 percent agriculture target in 11th five year plan.

16/03/2010 : From 1950 to 1989 Election Commission worked as a single member body. The CEC shall not be removed from his office except in the like manner and in the like ground as a judge of a Supreme Court. The other ECs cannot be removed from office except on recommendation of the CEC.

16/03/2010 : Press Council of India:

(1). It is an autonomous body with equal quasi-judicial authority over the authorities and the press person.

(2). There are 28 members in the Council comprising 20 members from the newspaper world, five are Member of Parliament (three are nominated by the Speaker and two by the Vice-President)and remaining three are nominated by the Sahitya Akademi, the Bar Council of India and the University Grant Commission.

(3). The Chairman heading convention should be a sitting or retired judge of Supreme Court of India.
